Leigh
Compassion in Action’s Community Village of Inclusion is centred around the charity’s Patrick House headquarters in Leigh. Developed to meet the needs of the community and with the generous support of our valued partners, the site includes Duva Mews – apartments for people with learning difficulties or disabilities; Haven House – a recovery-focused wellbeing centre for adults who are living with depression, anxiety, emotional distress and isolation; and Oasis House 1 & 2, a commissioned service which offers therapeutic non-clinical short-term residential interventions.
Patrick House
Located just outside Leigh town centre, Patrick House is a place of hope for people to socialise and find friendship; to forge community bonds through volunteering; and to access support through our partner agencies – including Beacon Trust Counselling Service.
Our headquarters are home to a purpose-built community café, office suite, board room and function room, which are available to hire for events, meetings and training. Regular visitors to Patrick House include our valued ex-armed forces and Royal British Legion members, who attend a weekly veterans’ brunch, and our honoured guests of the monthly Ladies Luncheon, as well as many other local groups and organisations.
More recently, we have adapted our premises to create a ‘Heat Retreat’ where adults of all ages can keep warm, enjoy a free snack and seek cost of living support.
Duva Mews
Comprising 11 modern apartments, Duva Mews are situated at the rear of Patrick House, close to local shops and amenities. Key features include a specially adapted modern fitted kitchen, induction hob, wet room and a paved area outside.
An additional eight modern apartments are situated on the first floor of Patrick House, which benefit from access to a communal laundrette and gym facilities.
The care provision on site is provided by our partners Cherish UK and with support from Wigan Council Adult Social Care.
Haven House
Haven House is a safe, nurturing space that enables people to heal, gain control and move forward with new meaning and purpose in life.
‘Doing what’s right for me to stay well’ is the principle at the heart of our wellbeing centre, which aims to share ideas and experiences to encourage others to do the same.
We are proud to influence health, social care and community services locally through innovative approaches that make a real difference to people’s lives.
The Haven House wellbeing centre is accessible to all residents by appointment, which can be booked via Patrick House’s reception desk.
Oasis House 1 & 2
Oasis House offers a safe environment where adults from the Wigan Borough who are experiencing emotional distress can access short-term therapeutic help in a 24-hour residential setting.
Guests are supported to develop structure to their day; to identify their own wellbeing needs; and to plan short and long-term goals to manage their mental health.
Every guest of Oasis House leaves with an exit plan, with open doors to local support groups, organisations and volunteer opportunities.
Oasis House referrals are managed in partnership with our commissioners via the Wigan Home Based Treatment Team.
