Veterans’ charity gala marks Iraq War 20th anniversary
We were honoured to join our valued veterans at the Iraq War 20th Anniversary Black Tie Gala – held at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, 18 March.
The event was hosted by former soldier Councillor James Paul Watson and included a three-course meal; live entertainment from vintage vocalist the Golden Age Songbird; and an auction raising funds for military charities.
Pam Gilligan, CEO at Compassion in Action, said: “The local veterans’ community – including members of The Royal British Legion – united at this event to reflect upon the service and sacrifices of our forces during the Iraq War, as well as all other conflicts past and present.”
The gala concluded with a special presentation by Peter Powell, President of Atherton Royal British Legion Branch, who awarded a Lifetime Membership to The Reverend ‘Reg’ Sinclair – described as a ‘Padre who worked very hard for the Armed Forces community’.
Our veterans’ brunch for ex-Armed Forces and Royal British Legion members runs every Thursday from 10am to 1pm at Patrick House’s Community Café. Friendship, advice and support are all on the menu, as well as good home-cooked food. To book a place, telephone 01942 262636.
