Compassion in Action’s non-clinical mental health service praised in House of Commons

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has praised Compassion in Action’s non-clinical mental health service in the House of Commons.
The Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP did so having heard about our pioneering prevention and intervention open-ended access model from Leigh MP Jo Platt.
Addressing Mr Streeting in the House of Commons, Ms Platt explained how our charity is easing pressure on GP services by receiving GP referrals for those struggling with their mental and emotional health. This approach, Ms Platt, said: “…aligns with the Government’s aim to shift care from hospitals to communities.”
In his response, Mr Streeting thanked our Founder & CEO Pam Gilligan and the team at Compassion in Action “…for the work that they do”.
Mr Streeting added: “At the heart of our approach to health is a recognition that Government action is essential for improving health outcomes in the country, and that Government acting alone will not be sufficient. That is why working with the voluntary sector, employers, trade unions, community groups and all of us as individual citizens is vital for tackling health inequalities and improving care in our country.”
Reflecting on the exchange in the Seat of Parliament, Pam said: “We are blessed to have the valued belief and support of our wonderful MP, Jo Platt. As a patron of our charity, Jo shares our vision – walking with people on life’s journey and empowering them to manage their mental and emotional wellbeing in a healthier way.
‘We are so grateful to Jo for championing our model in the House of Commons – and for celebrating our wonderful partnership-working with Leigh and Wigan GPs. We look forward to continuing this conversation with Mr Streeting’s team.”
